POP Seminar: Brianna Costales and Ziyan Chen, Thurs 01/23/2020

Brianna Costales:  Off-label gabapentin utilization using National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS) data from 2011-2015

Ziyan Chen: Real-world treatment pattern of premenopausal women with HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer.

Brianna is in her third year with POP and her advisor is Dr. Goodin.  She received her bachelor’s degree in Health Science from California State University, Fullerton. She has worked in phase I through IV clinical trials of central nervous system therapeutics and as a compliance officer at a compounding pharmacy prior to that. Brianna’s research interests include drug safety and improving outcomes in the mental health population.

Ziyan Chen is a fourth-year Ph.D. student in the Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy Program (POP). She earned her bachelor degree at Sun Yat-Sen University with a major of Bioscience. She has a master degree in Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine from University of Southern California. She also earned a master degree from POP department in 2018. Now she is working as a Ph.D. student on projects that cover the topics of healthcare resource utilization and economic burden of diseases, economic evaluation of cancer therapies. She is interested in using real-world evidence for pharmacoeconomic modeling and developing a framework to assist healthcare decision makers in dealing with “real world” data and information in “real world” health care decision-making.
