Admission Requirements – MS and PhD

Students are only admitted into the MS and PhD program for the Fall semester. Students who would like to pursue a PhD degree can apply directly for the PhD program. Prior enrollment into the MS program is not necessary.

Review of applications begins December 1 and ends April 1. Decisions on first round interviews and nominations for fellowship are finalized by January 15; thus completing your application before December 1 is strongly encouraged.

The PhD and MS program are open to any individual regardless of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, age, handicap, or place of residence. All applicants will be considered on a competitive basis. A degree in pharmacy is not required for admission; however, familiarity with pharmacy (in particular) and health care (in general) is considered to be an asset.

The department adheres to the following requirements:

  • A grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale);
  • A competitive Graduate Record Examination (GRE); students are especially encouraged to apply if they exceed verbal and quantitative test scores >155;
  • Three letters of recommendation that address the applicant’s qualifications for graduate school in general and our field of study in particular;
  • A biographical sketch including a statement of career goals and reason for selecting a program of study in Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy;
