POP Seminar Speaker Kayla Smith, PharmD, PN1-NC and Priyanka Kulkarni, MPH 10/21/2025

Please join us Tuesday, 10/21/2025 for POP Research Seminar of the Spring 2025, held from 10:40 am-12:40 pm in NVIDIA Auditorium (1st Floor). We will be welcoming ,  Kayla Smith, PharmD, PN1-NC and Priyanka Kulkarni, MPH 

Kayla Smith, PharmD, PN1-NC is a fourth-year PhD student in the Department of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy, working under the supervision of Dr. Steven Smith. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry/chemistry from Marist College in 2018, and she then went on to complete her PharmD at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy in 2022. Kayla is also a licensed pharmacist in Florida who practices PRN at the UF Health outpatient pharmacies. Her research primary interests include cardiometabolic disease and treatment-resistant hypertension. Today she will be presenting a secondary analysis from a clinical trial focusing on an apparent treatment-resistant hypertensive cohort. Her seminar title presented is: “Apparent Treatment Resistant (aTRH) in U.S. GUARDD Participants”

Priyanka Kulkarni, MPH Priyanka is 4th year PhD student in the Department of POP. She is a registered pharmacist from India where she completed her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the Institute of Chemical Technology. She is also Master of Public Health from Boston University where she conducted research on the commercial and social value of pharmaceutical industry-led “access to medicines” programs. Her prior work includes a systematic review of COVID-19 clinical trials that she conducted at UPenn, statin and antihypertensive prescribing cascades, pregnancy and marijuana research. Today she will be presenting her research on calcium channel blocker-induced prescribing cascades, which she conducted under the guidance of Dr. Steven Smith. Her seminar title presented is: “Calcium channel blocker-induced prescribing cascades: Signal detection using high-throughput sequence symmetry analysis”.
