POP Seminar Guest Speaker, Pilar Hernandez Con and Shu Huang, 10/7/2024

Please join us Thursday, 10/7/2024 for POP Research Seminar of the Fall 2024, held from 11:30 am-1:00 pm in NVIDIA Auditorium (1st Floor). We will be welcoming Pilar Hernandez Con, MD, MSCE, and Shu Huang, MP. MS., as our seminar speakers.

Pilar Hernandez Con, MD, MSCE., is a fifth-year PhD student in the department of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy. She earned her medical degree at the University of Costa Rica. She then practiced as a primary care physician for six years before moving to the U.S. She obtained her master’s in clinical epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania in December 2021. Her research lies  at the intersection of health services research and pharmacoepidemiology and focuses on health outcomes among individuals with HCV and HIV co-infection. Her primary mentor is Dr. Haesuk Park. She was recently the recipient of a National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Diversity Supplement Award to work on her dissertation project. Pilar’s seminar title is: “The HCV Care Cascade Among Individuals Screened for HCV Infection in Florida’s Emergency Departments”

 

Shu Huang, MPH, MS., obtained her MS in Biotechnology at Johns Hopkins University and an MPH in Biostatistics at Yale School of Public Health. Shu’s current research interests are in suicide prediction modeling, pain management, and machine learning. Shu Huang’s seminar title is: Risk of suicide-related outcomes following the abrupt discontinuation of the long-term opioid therapy
