POP Seminar: Phuong Tran, MPH., Yushi Huang, Pharm.D., and Alaa Abdullah Alashehri, PharmD., 3/23/2023

Please join us Thursday, 03/23/2022 for POP Research Seminar of the Spring 2023, held from 11:00 am-12:30 pm in HPNP Auditorium (room 1404). We will welcoming Phuong Tran, MPH.,  Yushi Huang, PharmD, and Alaa Abdullah  Alshehri, PharmD , as our seminar speakers.     

Phuong, Yushi & AlaaPhuong “Phoenix” Tran, is a pharmacist and public health professional by training. Her research focuses on infectious diseases and antibiotic prescribing and her advisor is Dr. Winterstein. Currently, Phoenix is a fifth year PhD student, spending most of her time working on her dissertation, playing tennis, and finding her why. Her seminar title is: “Tackle unmeasured confounding with combinations of study designs and negative control outcomes adjustment: A case study of oral quinolones and Achilles tendon rupture”.

Yushi Huang, obtained her PharmD degree in 2018 from the University of Florida. Yushi is now a fifth year PhD student in POP under the supervision of Dr. Diaby. Her research interests are health economics and outcomes research with real world evidence. Her disease area of interest is oncology, especially immunotherapy in lung cancer. Her seminar title is: “Review of algorithms to identify patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) from non-NSCLC    in administrative claims database”.

Alaa Abdullah Alashehri, second year master student working with Dr. Shao and Dr. Guo. She graduated from King Faisal University with a PharmD degree in 2017. In 2018, she started working at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University as a teaching assistant in the department of pharmacy practice till 2021. Alaa started the master’s program in Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy Department in the fall of 2021. Her research interest are pharmacoeconomic and the utilization of newer classes of glucose-lowering drugs among type 2 diabetes. Alaa seminar title is: “Racial/Ethnic and Socioeconomic Disparities in The Utilization of GLP-1 RA and SGLT2i Among US Adults with Type 2 Diabetes by Cardiovascular and Renal Disease Indications (2018-2019)”.
