POP Seminar Guest Speaker/Faculty Candidate: Adam Atherly, PhD on 03/07/222

A3Please join us Monday, 03/07/2022 for POP Research seminar of the Spring 2022, held from 11:00am – 12:00pm in HPNP Auditorium, Room 1404, or via Zoom. We will be welcoming  Adam Atherly, Ph.D. as our seminar speaker.

Dr. Atherly is an experienced health economist whose research spans numerous methodological and topical areas, including choice modeling, healthcare spending and expenditure modeling, scale development and psychometric analysis, evaluation of efforts to improve quality of care and patient safety, and cost-effectiveness analysis.  His research often focuses on consumer decisions regarding health insurance plan choice, and, more recently, value-based healthcare.

Dr. Atherly has published more than 100 peer review papers and book chapters.  Numerous papers focus on the effect of health on health care spending, including lifetime spending and life expectancy projections for Medicare beneficiaries with and without chronic illnesses and the effect of copayments and other cost sharing on health care spending.  Dr. Atherly has also completed many cost effectiveness studies, on topics ranging from cancer to asthma to Covid-19.  Dr. Atherly has been consistently funded since 2002 by such agencies as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, NIH, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.  He currently leads research projects funded by NIH, RWJF and private health plans.

His seminar title is: “The effect of medical innovation on the cost-effectiveness of COVID 19-related policies in the United States using a SIR model.”
