Please join us Thursday, 10/07/2021 for POP Research seminar of the Fall 2021, held from 11:00 am-12:30 pm in HPNP Auditorium, Room HPNP 1404. We will be welcoming Dr. Hamed Kianmehr, Ph.D. and Brianna Costales, BS as our seminar speakers.
Dr. Kianmehr earned his Ph.D. in Operation Research in December 2019 at the State University of New York at Binghamton. He also holds a master’s degree and a B.A. in Operation Research. His doctoral research focuses on analytics and machine learning applied to health data. He leverages methods from data science, statistics, and dynamics modeling with application to various populations including patients with an acute respiratory infection, and opioid users. He is working with Dr. Shao on several studies since Jan 2020 including estimates the life-expectancy of diagnosed type two diabetes patients using a microsimulation model, working on data-driven model selection based on RCT and EHR datasets. Dr. Kianmehr’s research interests lie in applying microsimulation, system dynamics modeling, optimization, and data analytics methodologies to problems arising in the healthcare and public policy domains.
His seminar title presented is: “Causal Tree Learning for Heterogeneous Treatment Effect Estimation” and his mentor is Dr. Hui Shao.
Brianna Costales is a fifth year PhD student who works under the direction of Dr. Amie Goodin. She is specializing in pharmacoepidemiology and is interested in drug safety, psychiatry, mental health outcomes, and central nervous system therapeutics.
Her seminar title presented is: “Part I: Applying for a NIH Predoctoral Grant (and Maybe Even Getting One), and Part II: Preliminary Aim 1a Results” and her mentor is Dr. Aime Goodin.
