Dr. Juan Hincapie-Castillo appointed as FDA committee consultant

Juan Hincapie-Castillo, Pharm.D., Ph.D., an assistant professor of pharmaceutical outcomes and policy in the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, has been appointed as a consultant to the Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Committee.

The committee advises the FDA commissioner on risk management, risk communication and quantitative evaluation of spontaneous reports on drugs for human use and for any other product for which the FDA has regulatory responsibility.

The committee also advises the FDA commissioner on the scientific and medical evaluation of all information gathered by the Department of Health and Human Services, or DHHS, and the Department of Justice with regard to safety, efficacy and abuse potential of drugs or other substances. The committee further recommends actions the DHHA should take regarding marketing, investigation and control of drugs and other substances.
