KARI CASSEL joined UF&Shands as chief information officer in 2010 with more than 25 years of experience in academic health care information technology. In her dual role, she oversees Information Technology/Information Services for the UF Health Science Center and Shands throughout Gainesville and Jacksonville, and she collaborates closely with UF main campus IT leaders.

Cassel led the system-wide launch of Epic, the electronic medical records system, and ensured seamless integration of the EMR system across our UF physician outpatient practices and Shands hospital inpatient and outpatient programs.

From 1997 to 2010, Cassel served as chief information officer at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Her accomplishments there included successful implementation of advanced clinical systems and collaborative efforts to more effectively leverage IT resources to advance the organization’s missions of health care, education, research and outreach. She created an award winning research development group that made extensive use of open-source software combined with internal development. Before joining UAMS, she was a consultant for National Healthtech Corp., specializing in interim management, strategic planning and organizational assessment. Prior to that, she served in various director of IT roles at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

Cassel earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in management science from California State University, San Bernardino, and an M.B.A. from the University of Arkansas, Little Rock.
